CXS Series Dual-Rod Guided Pneumatic Cylinder
The CXS Series Dual-Rod Guided Pneumatic Cylinder combines a double-acting pneumatic actuator with two parallel piston rods and an integrated guide mechanism.
Compared with a conventional single-rod cylinder, the dual-rod structure provides better resistance to rotation and improves the stability of the front mounting plate. It is suitable for applications requiring accurate linear movement, controlled workpiece orientation and direct mounting of a lightweight tool or fixture.
The series is available with either slide bearings or ball-guide bearings. Bore sizes range from 6 mm to 32 mm, with strokes up to 100 mm depending on the selected bore.
Key Features
Dual-Rod Anti-Rotation Structure
Two parallel piston rods support the moving front plate and help prevent rotation during extension and retraction.
This structure is suitable for:
- Oriented component transfer
- Precision pushing
- Locating operations
- Guided clamping
- Tool positioning
- Small pick-and-place mechanisms
Integrated Linear Guidance
The built-in bearing structure guides the piston rods and supports stable linear movement without requiring a separate anti-rotation mechanism in many light-duty applications.
Two Bearing Options
The CXS Series offers two guide-bearing configurations:
- M: Slide-bearing type
- L: Ball-guide-bearing type
The slide-bearing version is suitable for general industrial movement and applications requiring good impact resistance.
The ball-guide-bearing version provides lower friction and higher non-rotation accuracy, making it suitable for more precise positioning and smooth repetitive movement.
Double-Acting Operation
Compressed air powers both extension and retraction, providing controlled motion and force in two directions.
Adjustable Return Stroke
The catalog specifies a return-stroke adjustment range of 0–5 mm. This allows the cylinder’s retracted position to be fine-tuned within the available adjustment range.
Optional Magnetic Position Detection
The CXS Series is designed to support a magnetic piston and external auto switches for detecting the cylinder position.
Position feedback can be used for:
- Extension confirmation
- Retraction confirmation
- PLC sequence control
- Cycle monitoring
- Machine interlocking
- Fault detection
High Non-Rotation Accuracy
Depending on the bore and bearing type, the catalog specifies piston-rod non-rotation accuracy from ±0.15° to ±0.04°.
The ball-guide-bearing version provides the highest listed anti-rotation accuracy.
Compact Mounting Platform
The moving front plate provides threaded mounting points for attaching a small tool, bracket, stop or workpiece fixture directly to the cylinder.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a CXS cylinder?
The CXS is a compact double-acting pneumatic cylinder with two parallel piston rods and an integrated guide. Its design provides stable, non-rotating linear movement.
Why does the CXS use two piston rods?
The two rods improve resistance to rotation and support the moving front plate more effectively than a conventional single rod.
What is the difference between M and L?
M is the slide-bearing version. L is the ball-guide-bearing version. The L version provides lower friction and higher specified non-rotation accuracy.
What bore sizes are available?
The available bore sizes are 6, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 32 mm.
What is the maximum stroke?
The 6 mm bore model supports strokes up to 50 mm. Models with 10–32 mm bores support strokes up to 100 mm.
Is the CXS single acting or double acting?
The supplied specification identifies the CXS Series as double acting.
What is the maximum operating pressure?
The maximum operating pressure is 0.7 MPa.
What is the operating-temperature range?
The specified temperature range is 5°C to 60°C.
Can the return position be adjusted?
Yes. The catalog specifies a return-stroke adjustment range of 0–5 mm.
Does the cylinder have built-in position sensing?
It can be equipped with a magnetic piston and external auto switches. The exact sensor model should be confirmed separately.
Can a tool be mounted directly to the front plate?
Yes. The front plate includes threaded mounting points. The tool mass, mounting position and resulting moment must remain within the allowable guide capacity.
Does the dual-rod structure eliminate the need for an external guide?
Not in every application. The integrated guide is suitable for loads within its rated capacity. Heavy, offset or high-impact loads may still require external guidance.
What are the air-port sizes?
Bores from 6 to 25 mm use M5 × 0.8 ports. The 32 mm bore model uses G1/8 ports.
Can the cylinder operate with water, oil or another gas?
The specified working medium is compressed air. Other media require separate verification of seal and material compatibility.
