MAL Series Mini Round Pneumatic Cylinder
The MAL Series Mini Pneumatic Cylinder is a compact round-body actuator designed for reliable linear motion in automation equipment, packaging machinery, assembly systems and other industrial applications.
Available with bore sizes from 16 mm to 40 mm, the MAL family offers double-acting, single-acting, double-shaft, adjustable-stroke and pneumatic-cushion configurations. Multiple rear-cover styles and mounting accessories allow the cylinder to be adapted to different equipment layouts.
Key Features

Lightweight Aluminum Body

The cylinder uses an aluminum tube to provide a lightweight structure with good resistance to normal industrial corrosion.
The round-body design is suitable for equipment where weight, installation space and ease of mounting are important.

Bore Sizes from 16 to 40 mm

Available bore sizes include:
  • 16 mm
  • 20 mm
  • 25 mm
  • 32 mm
  • 40 mm
The wide bore selection allows the cylinder output force to be matched to different machine loads.

Multiple Operating Configurations

The MAL product family includes:
  • Standard double-acting type
  • Single-acting spring-extend type
  • Single-acting spring-return type
  • Double-shaft double-acting type
  • Double-shaft cushioned type
  • Double-shaft adjustable-stroke type
  • Pneumatic-cushion type

Adjustable-Stroke Version

The MALJ configuration provides an adjustment mechanism for applications requiring fine control of the effective stroke.
The ordering guide specifies an adjustable amount from:
0–100 mm
The adjustment amount and total available stroke must be confirmed for the selected bore and model.

Optional Magnetic Piston

A magnetic piston can be selected for use with external auto switches.
Position sensing can provide:
  • Extended-position confirmation
  • Retracted-position confirmation
  • PLC feedback
  • Machine-sequence control
  • Cycle monitoring
  • Interlocking
  • Fault detection

Multiple Rear-Cover Designs

Three rear-cover styles are available:
  • Fishtail-style rear cover
  • Rounded rear cover
  • Horizontal rear cover
These options provide greater flexibility when connecting the cylinder to a fixed or pivoting mounting arrangement.

Standard Rubber Impact Cushion

The standard type incorporates anti-impact cushioning to reduce direct mechanical contact at the end of the piston stroke.

Optional Adjustable Pneumatic Cushion

Applicable cushioned models use adjustable pneumatic deceleration to reduce piston impact, noise and vibration at the stroke end.
The 16 mm bore specification does not show the adjustable pneumatic cushion as available. Confirm cushion availability for the exact selected model.

Wide Speed Range

The specified operating-speed range is 30–800 mm/s, allowing the MAL Series to cover slow controlled movements and faster repetitive operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an MAL pneumatic cylinder?

The MAL is a lightweight round-body pneumatic cylinder with an aluminum tube. It is designed for compact industrial linear-motion applications.

What bore sizes are available?

The listed bore sizes are 16, 20, 25, 32 and 40 mm.

Is the MAL cylinder double acting?

The standard MAL is double acting. Single-acting, double-shaft, adjustable-stroke and cushioned versions are also available.

What is the operating-pressure range?

The specified operating-pressure range is 0.1–0.9 MPa.

What is the proof pressure?

The proof pressure is 1.35 MPa. It is a test value rather than the recommended operating pressure.

What is the operating-temperature range?

The specified range is -5°C to +70°C.

What is the operating-speed range?

The piston-speed range is 30–800 mm/s.

What is the MALJ model?

MALJ is the double-shaft adjustable-stroke version. The ordering guide shows an adjustable amount from 0 to 100 mm.

What is the difference between MALD and MALJ?

MALD is a double-shaft double-acting cylinder. MALJ adds a stroke-adjustment mechanism.

Can a magnetic switch be installed?

Yes. Select the S magnetic-piston option and specify the required auto switch separately.

What cushioning is available?

The standard type uses an anti-impact cushion. Applicable MALC or MALCD versions offer adjustable pneumatic cushioning.

What air-port sizes are used?

The 16 mm bore uses M5 × 0.8, the 20–32 mm bores use G1/8, and the 40 mm bore uses G1/4.

What rear-cover types are available?

Fishtail, rounded and horizontal rear-cover types are listed.

Can the cylinder support a side load?

Significant side loading should not be applied directly to the piston rod. Use an external guide or floating joint.

Can it operate with water, oil or another gas?

The specified working medium is compressed air. Other media require separate compatibility verification.
